Replacing Cylinder Music Box Pins
By Les Plagmann

I just want to say thanks to everyone for all the good advice and
information on how to (and how not to) replace pins in my music box
cylinder. I appreciate your concern about the music box and must
apologize for alarming so many of you. I replaced a total of seven
pins using my crude methods, then stopped and sought help from this
newsletter.

I'll be rethinking the restoration project and probably let a skilled
and practiced craftsman handle the repinning.

This music box has been hard to identify and I'm wondering if anyone
can assist in that area. It measures 18" long and has a 10.75"long
cylinder. 103 teeth on the comb, plays six tunes (judging by the
number of prongs on the snail wheel) and has three levers on the left
end that are accessed by removing the hinged wooden end of the box.
There was only a small scrap of the program card left when I found the
box but what is there closely resembles tunecards used by Brugiuer
(according to pictures I've seen in Ord-Hume's book on collecting
music boxes). Also, the letters JB, about an inch tall, are cast into
the underside of the comb support. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I must say, in closing, that I'm greatly impressed with the knowledge
and expertise that you all have and are willing to share.

Thank you kindly,
Les Plagmann
