Tubing Diagram for Pedal/Electric Duo-Art
By Julian Dyer

There are NO books covering the Pedal-Electric Duo-Art (PEDA). The
only one which ever tried was Ord-Hume's 'Restoring Pianolas', and it's
not right. The reprinted Duo-Art service book, and Reblitz's wonderful
Player Piano rebuilding book, won't help, because the UK PEDA expression
box and controls are very different to the American electric-only
instruments.

Because of the number of similar queries, I've had a go at describing
the tubing of the PEDA expression system in the latest edition of the
Player Piano Group bulletin. No single tubing diagram is possible to
describe the system, unfortunately, because no two instruments are ever
quite the same! I have a number of sketches of peoples' instruments,
including one of a piano of exactly the same model as mine. Theirs is
quite different, right down to the motor and pump being mounted in a
different place.

The only real way to do a Duo-Art is to learn how the system works,
as you will then be able to recognise the various bits and hopefully
connect them together properly. It's quite simple, actually, once
you've figured it out! However, the real difficulty with the Duo-Art
is rebuilding and regulating it properly to play musically. That's
another story...
