Compatibility of Criterion and Olympic Discs
By Wayne Eidelbus

Just a thank-you to those who responded to my question concerning
whether Criterion discs with a single drive hole could be used on an
Olympia music box requiring two drive holes. Informed members advised
me to "give it a try, it should work and cannot hurt anything". So
with some trepidation I carefully drilled the required second hole.

Well, they work just fine! Apparently the soft zinc metal wore too
rapidly with the single drive hole, so they added another hole when
they came out with the newer model Olympia. There is some evidence
they may have been planning the possibility of a third hole to further
extend disc life, but went out of business before any were produced.

My thanks to all who helped.
