Politically Incorrect Piano Rolls
By Reg Smith

It was by no means only piano rolls that featured this sort of music
titles. I have come across a great many music box discs with titles
guaranteed to offend in today's world. In particularly frequent usage
was the word "coon", but all the other terms we can all imagine were
used as well.

Apparently the usage of such terms was so widely ingrained in our
society during the 19th century and early 20th century that most folks
never gave it a second thought. The blacks living during those times
must have been offended, but in the overall scheme of things in those
days, this was a relatively minor issue compared to other social evils,
and it would have done no good in those days to complain too loudly
about such matters.

My 2 cents worth.
