In the liner notes for the CD, "Keyboard Artists of the Gershwin Era,
Vol. III: Arden & Ohman," the first track is listed as follows:

"12TH STREET RAG (Fox Trot) [2'43"] ...(Rec. 7/20. Mat. 68770; Pathe Freres
Phonograph Co. B 20467); Piano duet-Max Kortlander and Victor Arden."

The notes themselves further elaborate:  "Track 1 is a vertical-cut
Pathe Disc that was a mechanical dub from a cylinder master"

This is the only reference I've ever seen of Max Kortlander on record
(except for a 70's vintage LP of his rolls).  Didn't Kortlander make a
roll of "12th Street Rag", part of the QRS Autograph series?  Is it
possible (or even probable) that Arden was playing a duet with this
roll?  Sort of like when, one night at the AMICA convention at Niagara
Falls, I played Hi Babit's roll of "Walkin' & Whistlin' a Happy Tune"
while Hi accompanied the roll on another piano (a thrill).

The reason I ask is that in about a month I'm presenting a program
called "Max Kortlander: Life on a Roll", and plan to work this little
oddity into my presentation.
