Verbeeck Street Organ "Australia Fair"
By John Wolff

I must admit to much the same reaction as John Phillips (MMD 990211)
when the Verbeeck organ "Australia Fair" turned up in the main street
of our town a couple of months back.

The owner is Damon O'Donoghue of Sydney, NSW, who has spent the last six
years towing the organ all over the countryside. (Tasmania is quite an
achievement for towing, as it is "overseas" from the rest of Australia).
There is now a web site with details of the organ and the CDs at:

   http://scofa.muse.com.au/about.htm

There is an mpeg file of "Grandfather's Clock" available for download
on the web site. I have actually hand-cranked the organ through this
piece, much to the amusement of the local shoppers. ("You gotta try
this, just once", says Damon).

I can recommend all five of the CDs, which are very reasonably priced
(especially at the current Australian exchange rate).

John Wolff.
Melbourne, Australia.
