PowerRoll Status
By Larry Broadmoore

Regarding Michael Waters' inquiry about PowerRoll shipments:

It is true that shipments of PowerRolls are behind schedule. The main
reason is the death of my business partner and good friend, Laurent
Coray, on July 18. Laurent was the developer of the electronics for
the PowerRoll and supplied the processor boards built into it, as well
as the electronics for the piano shutoff relay and power supply.

Ron Perry, an electronics engineer who had purchased another company
from Laurent previously, is in the process of taking over the construc-
tion of these units, which were in process when Laurent suffered an
unexpected relapse of the brain cancer for which he had just completed
treatments. Laurent had improved and we had expected his complete
recovery when I last spoke to him in June.

The first units of the new type will be shipped this week but, as
I have only eight processor boards in stock, only eight units and
upgrades can go out until Ron is able to complete production of new
processor boards. I understand that about 20 boards are currently
being prepared and will be shipped to me within the next couple of
weeks. I have a number of power supply units in stock, but there may
be another delay when these are used up, if the new ones have not been
completed yet.

After announcement of the price raise on June 15 we were flooded with
orders, and I decided that, instead of building these units in the
usual way which was very time and labor-intensive, I would build
production tooling instead. This turned out to be more difficult than
I expected but was very successful, and now operations which formerly
took days can be done in minutes. We are now set up to construct
PowerRolls at very high speed and with even greater accuracy. I have
parts for about 50 PowerRolls in stock, and we have been preparing
these for shipment pending receipt of the electronics components.
