Octet and PowerRoll Repair Service
By Julie Porter

I have been sort of quiet lately. I'm still keeping up with my
projects, which are considerable. I finished the theater organ
installation last October and heard the instrument play on Christmas
Eve. What a thrill to hear something like that! Since then my search
for new work has been not too productive. I have revived a few
projects that can hopefully tide me over 'til things pick up again.

Some years ago Spencer Chase gave me a damaged Octet UM1 Universal
MIDI Interface. I wanted to see if I could fix it and this was mostly
successful. I melted the front panel, and one chip is hard to find
(it's used for the WPM output, I think as everything else works).
This is detailed this on my log, with photographs, at
http://www.delectra.com/toys

If anyone is interested I am willing to sell off the repaired Octet
UM1 unit, although the price might be a bit high.

I would like to once again offer my services in repair of these MIDI
interface units. I can also repair Broadmoore PowerRolls too as the
electronics are the same as the UM0.

I also have a number of MIDI related electronics and prototypes. I am
starting some spring cleaning by listing them on eBay. Currently I am
listing processor chips similar to what the Octet uses. These chips
are not the same as what the Octet board takes. While the old Octet
boards can be repaired, I have developed similar boards which are
functionally compatible at one-third the cost of the parts needed to
replace all the electronics on the Octet.

In addition to wiring traditional and MIDI interfaces in any sort of
electro-pneumatic instrument, I am also good at leathering, pallet
covering and cleaning the detritus out of old instruments.
