Can't Find Steinway XR Serial Number

The Steinway Serial number is always stamped on the top of the pedal
lyre.  If the piano is to be restored anyway, it might be a good idea
to see if that serial number had been painted over or purposely rubbed
off, by gently taking solvent to the area of the plate that these
numbers are stamped on.  Stolen or missing pianos have been found this
way.
