Winding Key for Square-Hole Spring Barrel Socket
By Philip Jamison

I recently purchased a key-wind 11" cylinder music box. Most of these
boxes seem to take a female key, but this one takes a male winder:
there is a 5/16" (80 mm) square hole in the spring barrel. No maker's
name, but it looks around 1885. Can anyone help me find what the key
might have looked like so I can make a copy?

This box has another odd feature: the inner glass cover is rabitted
into the case. It slides a bit to the right, but otherwise doesn't
come out. No sign of hinges. George Bidden restored it in 1957
(I could tell a few stories about him!).
