Mechanical Music On Stage
By Tom McAuley

Hi all. One of our AMICA chapter members told us in December that
he had been contacted by the local theatre company, who asked him to
participate in their production of "Inherit the Wind." He was to play
the part of an organ grinder (providing his own organ) and the theatre
folks were to find a real monkey and dress them in matching costumes.

The play is in performance now, on the campus of The University of
Missouri-Kansas City (http://www.umkc.edu/). I'm not familiar with the
play, so I don't know anything about the part, but Charlie was pretty
excited about it!

Our local high school is also producing that play this spring. When
I contacted the director, he didn't indicate a need to fill that part,
so I guess we won't have a real organ grinder in our local production.
You just never know where you will find mechanical music machines next!
