On-Stage Player Piano for "The Music Man"
By D. L. Bullock

Yes, "The Music Man" show requires a player piano and I have loaned
a couple of them for various performances. This never required any
dancing on top of the piano and, considering the Victorian era in which
the musical is set, it would be very out of character for the townsfolk
to disrespect a piano in that way.

The rolls needed for a performance are "Columbia the Gem of the Ocean"
and "Rustle of Spring" for the Grecian Urns. [In Eulalie's ballet:
"One Grecian urn, two Grecian urns, and a fountain..." ;-) -- Robbie ]

The player piano also has a non-musical "speaking" part: the noise of
the rewind flapping of the roll interrupts a conversation.

The stage play "Dark at the Top of the Stairs" also requires a player
piano and I have loaned out for that as well.

What other performances require a player piano? Do I smell another
MMD topic?
