Proofs of Purchase on QRS Roll Boxes

Here is a trivial question that I have wondered about for some time:
On newer QRS roll boxes there is a half-circle punch-out piece called
a "Proof of Purchase."  Did QRS ever offer any premiums for collecting
these proofs of purchase or are they just decoration?
