Mechanical Music in the Movies
By John Rutoskey

One other movie that has an excellent scene featuring mechanical music
is "Dogfight". In this film River Phoenix takes a date to a penny
arcade and several machines are played by them, among them a Seeburg A
roll piano with the lower panel removed and a Coinola C-2. Regardless
of the coin pianos being in the movie, it is still on my top 10 list of
favorite films of all time.

Does anyone remember the title of the movie from about 1930 featuring
a barroom scene with a Seeburg J in the background? It may have been
Bette Davis or Joan Crawford, but I cannot recall. I remember it was
shown for quite some time, being directly behind the main shot of the
characters sitting at a table.
