Our store used to sell player pianos.  At one time the only player
piano available was the Aeolian-made "Ivers and Pond", "Hardman",
"Duo-Art", etc.  which were all basically the same player piano.  The
QRS catalog featured long playing rolls that would tear up on rewind.

I solved that problem by altering the take up spool.  I used to take
the flanges off and cut the take up spool on a table saw.  This cut was
just a little so I could move the flanges closer together.  The paper
tended to crawl left to right on the take up spool while the roll
played.  On rewind this would cause a roll to tear.

I also made on occasion a different valve block so that the tracker
system would have no valves but only bleeds.  This was patterned to
work like the Ampico and Duo-Art systems.  They tend to move the roll
more smoothly.  The above are just food for thought.
