Seek Piano Roll "Gridiron Club March" by Sousa
By Karl Petersen

Does a roll of "Gridiron Club March" exist? Sousa wrote a very large
number of marches, most of which were done for a particular occasion
or organization, and somewhat quickly dove into obscurity. This march
has been recorded many times on all sound media, but I have not seen
it on a roll. Come to think of it, I have not seen it on an Edison
cylinder catalog. Hmm.

My grandfather was a member of the club, and I attended the annual
dinner in 1966, hence my interest. Sousa directed the Marine Corps
Band at every dinner while he was director of the band.

[ The Lester S. Levy sheet music collection shows another song by
[ John Philip Sousa, dedicated to the Gridiron Club: "Do We? We Do?"
[ The first line is "The poet he sings of the sparkling wine. Do we?"
