Seeburg Serial Numbers
By David Oppenheim

Hi MMD, I have recently obtained a Seeburg A keyboard piano, gutted
case only. I am interested in dating this piano. The serial number
is 58220. It is an earlier A. It has an angled coin slot and slot
for soft-loud cut out at the bottom of the beveled glass front,
but no on-off mandolin control knob as shown in pictures from the
"Encyclopedia of Automatic Instruments" for A and B pianos. It is oak
finish, quite good original. The instrument looks identical otherwise
to the Seeburg A shown in the book. Thanks for your help.

Musically, David Oppenheim

[ Don Teach wrote in 970207 MMD, "Seeburg used at least four different
[ vendors for their pianos. Unfortunately the numbers are not Seeburg
[ serial numbers but actually the manufacturer of the piano itself."
 [
[ Art Reblitz wrote more about this in 980311 MMD. He seeks this
 [ information for Seeburg pianos:
 [
 [ The piano serial number.
[ Whether the serial number is rubber-stamped or die-stamped.
[ The piano stack number (on the front or top of the stack).
[ The pipe chest number (on the top or front of the pipe chest).
[ The number on the paper sticker on the coin switch box.
[ The date rubber-stamped on the bottom of the piano hammers
[ (usually in the midrange, under the hammer tails).
