Zimbalist Musical Box
By Bob Ebert

Ralph Schultz asked about Zimbalist music boxes. Zimbalist
produced music boxes in Cleveland, Ohio, for a number of years.
And, yes, my understanding is that the cases did come from India,
although I am not sure of the movement type.

The Zimbalist boxes are no longer being made, but a local piano
dealer and mechanical music collector, Bill Kap, bought the remaining
Zimablist inventory. In May 2001, when the MidAm Chapter of MBSI had
a tour in Cleveland, the Bill Kap store was visited and a large
quantity of Zimbalist boxes, some very ornate, were being housed in
the basement of Bill Kap's store.

Mr. Kap is always friendly and willing to talk about mechanical music.
It might be worthwhile giving him a call at his store. The phone
number is 216-541-6078. It is located at 14130 Euclid Ave., Cleveland,
OH 44112.
