Zimbalist Musical Box
By Bill Maier

Hello Mr. Schultz and MMDers. Back in the 1960's I visited a
Mr. Zimbalist at his business tucked away on an upper floor in
the warehouse district west of Public Square in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was busily engaged assembling contemporary musical movements by
Reuge and Thorens into fancy small boxes he obtained from sources
around the world, many that I saw were from India. He mentioned he was
related to Ephram Zimbalist Sr. (noted violinist), I think his brother,
although unclear to me now 40 years later.

In any case, Mr. Zimbalist assembled mechanisms into cases, performing
rudimentary machining and woodcutting operations to achieve a good
looking final work of art.
