Unknown Musical Box Plays 30 cm Discs
By Michael Moretti

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

I just acquired an unmarked music box (a Symphonion?) that came with
several disks. The mechanism is double-comb, with 43 teeth on each
of the diametrically placed combs. The box has a coin slot, although
I can't see any mechanism to work with that.

The discs which came with it are 11-7/8" (30 cm) in diameter and seem
to play fine. They have been modified, however; originally they had
only a spindle hole but have since been punched with a second hole to
accommodate the extra pin.

Any assistance in identifying this machine would be very appreciated
so that I can start collecting some proper discs. Photos at
