Ray Siou and his Church-Pipe Band Organ
By Matthew Caulfield

A father certainly recognizes his own child, and Tony Greer is right
that the organ playing "unknown #14" on my web site is Ray Siou's
church-pipe band organ playing Wurlitzer Style 165 music rolls. As
anyone who bought music rolls from Ray knows, there was often included
in the shipment various "gifts" from Ray, mostly things which he picked
up at post office auctions, but sometimes tape recordings. I have
a half dozen cassettes recorded from the organ which Tony helped build.

I believe Ray Siou now lives with a relative due to age and declining
health, not in that big East 14th Street house in Oakland. The last
I heard, any instruments that Ray had not sold off are still in his
old house. That may be where his church-pipe organ is today.

It's been more than a year or two since I spoke with Ray, and I would
welcome news about him from any MMD reader who knows how the old
curmudgeon is doing now without his cats and his music.
