Douglas Henderson writes in the 05.06.04 MMD criticizing the quality and
sophistication of the arrangements available on most old music rolls,
and saying:

    > Had organizations like AMICA encouraged new arrangements, and --
    > better still -- ones which transcended the fare of the past, many
    > players would have retained their value today.

Am I some sort of dinosaur oddball, that I happen to prefer the original
"uninteresting" performances?  I see absolutely nothing wrong with those
old arrangements on any of the instruments.  Maybe I am not sophisticated
enough, but I think the old arrangements are worthy of keeping intact.
New arrangements are fine also, but I personally prefer the old
"predictable" comfortable styles!  If that makes me one-in-a-crowd, then
so be it!

I'm just wondering this, because I keep seeing the critical comments
referring to the old music as being all-but-worthless, and no one seems
to be standing up for the old stuff.  And I am not a particularly old-
timer: I am 43.
