Declining Prices & Declining Interest
By Bruce Miller

Here is my story regarding the lack of interest in automatic music
instruments by younger people.

I had my Wurlitzer 153 band organ (which is mounted in a custom truck)
out at an Independence Day festival last year. I was parked not too far
from a concession that was raising money for a charity by letting people
bash a car with a sledge hammer for $1 a hit. There was a group of
rather rowdy teenagers, both boys and girls, around the battered car.

One loudmouth fellow carried the hammer to a point about midway between
the car and my band organ, pointed at the playing organ, and said, loudly,
for everyone to hear, "I'd pay $5 to smash that damn thing!" All his
friends thought that was hilarious, and for some time, they "casually"
walked by and made snide comments. I just love today's teenagers...
