Collector Profiles
By Nicholas Newble

To reply to Rodney Diehl and his informal poll of MMD people:

I would put myself firmly in the "Piano Music Lover" category. I cannot
actually play the piano, but spend many happy hours pedaling away and
trying to improve my "performance" of each roll! For me an electrically
operated piano would be an additional luxury but definitely not a
substitute. I actually have an 88-note upright Aeolian half-Duo-Art.

And you guessed my roll collection: QRS and Play-Rites, featured
alongside many Mastertouch rolls and Meloto dance rolls. I'm not at all
keen on the brown-paper QRS rolls, which have single note holes too
small to make my piano respond properly. And, yes, I know some Meloto
rolls have dubious arrangements. But find a copy of "The Doll Dance" or
"You're The Cream In My Coffee" or "Wedding Of The Painted Doll," and I
think you would be pleasantly surprised at these relatively hot
arrangements.

I'm hoping to add some JAM rolls to my collection very shortly.
