I used to have some 4x recordable CDs that are now totally unplayable.
In time they just literally fell apart -- you can peel off the reflective
layer.

Some of the CDs I 'stored' without a  case; stated otherwise, they
were just laying on my desk.  These are the worst ones, probably
because of heat and sunlight, but the ones which did have a case are
also unplayable now.  I haven't experienced this with newer CDs, but
hey, they're not that old yet.

I hope quality has improved so I don't have to keep copying all my data
over and over again.
