UCSB Cylinder Recording Preservation Project
By Robbie Rhodes

MMDer Ben Roth found this interesting web site about the Cylinder
Preservation and Digitization Project at University of California
at Santa Barbara:

  http://www.library.ucsb.edu/speccoll/pa/cylinders.html
  http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/

Ben says he is enjoying listening to the cylinder recordings of songs
like "Humpty Dumpty Rag" which he has on piano rolls. You can hear
Ben's enjoy his piano rolls, transcribed as MIDI files, at
  http://mmd.foxtail.com/Sounds/JBRoth/

Note: Discussion about songs published on both piano rolls and
phonograph records is welcome in MMDigest, but since MMD is only
about self-playing mechanical musical instruments, further discussion
about phonograph recordings and phonograph technology should be at
the forums conducted by the antique phono collectors.
