Materials For Player Piano Restoration
By Niels Berkers

Hi Digest, Following the recent topic about trying new materials for
pouches or other player parts, I'm wondering, are there any stories of
such a 'rebuilt' being successful? I mean, you can read everywhere
what not to use, and are told everywhere else what you do need to use,
especially here on MMD and in numerous rebuilding books.

Still, there are people that (a) don't want to listen, (b) want to
save money, (c) want to try something new. (If never tried one can't
be sure it doesn't work!)

I read so many horror stories about the use/abuse of wrong materials
(and working on my second player action now I discovered some hospital
bandage tape on the air motor and exhausters) but I never actually read
something about the use of new/household/non-traditional materials
being a great success in player pianos.

Is this because it never is a success? Or maybe the success is not to
be posted in fear of being banned from here? Or even because nobody
ever does it after reading the MMD? (The latter will not be the cause,
I guess.)

Just wondering....
