In MMD 060521, Brian Thornton wrote about a man who painted pianos with
bright colors.  On a recent episode of a decorating show, the designer
painted the spinet piano with bold stripes to match the room decor.
I can understand someone wanting brighten up a room with a coat of
paint, but what purpose is served by painting the piano?  Unless the
painter is Picasso or another famous artist, the resale value of the
piano immediately plummets.

Decorators aim for color and style and something like a piano becomes
a mere object in their decorating scheme.  They are unconcerned about
the long-term consequences of a coat of paint on the piano's resale
value.

In the decorating show, the pianos stripes blended in with the wall
behind it.  At first glance, one may even overlook it.  Before it was
painted, the piano stood out.  After it was painted, the piano was
camouflaged and became a neglected, no longer involving its owner.
How sad.
