Larry Doe MK4 Roll Scanner
By Terry Smythe

Larry Doe's MK4 music roll scanner was unveiled to our community
for the first time at the AMICA Convention in Chicago. His roll
scanner incorporates a significant breakthrough as it is capable of
capturing printed matter (lyrics, stop changes, etc.) simultaneously
with capturing 100% of perforation data.

I now have it at home on my roll scanning workstation, and have
developed a web page dedicated to his achievement. It displays
a number of photos of the scanner from various angles, followed by
some screen displays of interest.

I am now comfortable with this scanner, having successfully scanned
Ampico, 88-note and 65-note rolls. I will shortly be scanning several
hundred Skinner pipe organ rolls that are 10 1/8" wide paper with pin
ends. These Skinner rolls are loaded with printed instructions for
pipe organ console operation. Without this new MK4 scanner developed
by Larry Doe, scanning these rolls would be an exercise in futility.
And without scanning, they will eventually die and the music contained
within lost forever.

The quality of the CIS scan files emerging from the MK4 scanner is
awesome. The data must be seen to be believed. What Larry has
achieved is a significant milestone in the evolutionary development of
music roll scanners, for which he is to be commended. This new web
page may be seen by clicking on http://members.shaw.ca/smythe/MK4.htm
Enjoy!
