Player Rolls for Vox Organo "The Singing Organ"
By John Dousmanis

Hi Everyone, I have come across 17 rolls that have the following marked
on the box end:

Vox Organo, "The singing Organ", Musical Research Products,
20th St. and Allegheny Ave., Philadelphia, Pa., USA

The information for the roll number and title has been entered with a
type writer, in this case: "No. 886 Raggedy Ann, from Stepping Stones."
The paper is a heavy good grade which is 10-5/8 inches wide. The
flanges are standard 88-note roll ends. The holes may be about 12 to
the inch. The roll box is of very heavy good construction and in mint
shape. I wish all manufactures made their boxes like this one. Some
of the titles are mainly organ music.

What is most interesting on the back end of the box is printed:

  NOTICE
"In order to secure the best musical results from this roll,
we recommend that a person operate the expression pedals by
listening through the earphones while roll is playing."
  MUSICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS INC.

Has anyone heard of a roll operated instrument where earphones are used
in its operation?

I can find nothing on these rolls. Does anyone have any information on
the manufacture or the rolls as to what they were used for?

Sincerely,
John Dousmanis
