Ehrlich's Musik Automat
By Ralf Smolne

Replying according to the request "Ehrlich's Musikautomat", please find
my suggestions, as follows. The society of self-playing instruments,
GSM, had recently organised a reprint of an early Ehrlich catalog,
"Fabrik Leipziger Musikwerke", for all its members.

Interesting that this Ehrlich cabinet might be printed and described
in this catalogue. I suggest that this cabinet will match with the
Monopol No. 57 Automat, 100 tines, "Sublime Harmonie" with 34.5 mm
disc diameter, with "Powerful, yet very agreeable tone".

The dimensions with pediment and the two ornamental front doors in
"Blech Emaille" [enameled sheet metal], 62 x 40.5 x 182 cm, is very
similar to the indicated dimensions. "It's a very elegant walnut case,
with beautifully enameled panels."

The same cabinet appears some pages later again as an "Automatic
Pipe Organ" No. 61, with 26 wooden pipes, which must be weight driven.
(I made this experience, while having possessed such type of cabinet
before.) It could be actuated by cardboard tunes and steel disc tunes
as well (no diameter indicated).

Herzliche Grüße, Best regards,
Ralf Smolne
