Angelus Player Restoration - Springs
By Roger Waring

When disassembling the Angelus stack I am working on, I have discovered
that most, but not all, secondary valves have hair-like springs between
the button and the valve seat securing block. As the valves operate in
a horizontal fashion, these springs are clearly intended to aid the
return of the valve to ensure good initial seating.

A number of the springs are missing, and I am concerned that extra
pedalling effort will be needed to establish good suction when
played. Does anyone have any spare, or can recommend a supply source?

They are extremely fine, and very delicate. Their resistance is so
light that they do not impede the inflating pouch, but they do just
enough to assist the return of the valve sufficiently to bring the
leather nicely into contact with the seat.

I now have my Hydrophane ready to apply to the pouch leathers, and
I have carefully cleaned the metal valve seats. All of them were
contaminated to a greater or lesser degree with a greenish deposit.
I am hoping that these three corrective actions will result in
a nice airtight unit.

I am on holiday for a week, but will contact all respondents upon
my return.

Thank you,
