Hello Gary.  It is probably well-known to readers of this forum that
Ray Siou had a Wurlitzer 165-style band organ built up, partially using
church organ pipework.  It is enormously successful, and is a joy to
see and hear.  A 1928 organ might have voicing quite similar to theatre
organs of that same era, and those usually do well as band organ pipes.

If the organ is not going to be subjected to much moving, typical
church pipework would do a good job, but for an organ that is used
to drag around the country, much attention needs to be paid to
preservation of the rather delicate pipe metal pipes.  Wood is quite
robust, and would travel well.

If the organ is being built as a stationary exhibit, _go for it!_
