Star Perforator for Making Perforated Music Rolls
By Paul Manganaro

A had a few inquiries about the Star perforator owned by Robert Barns
[070418 MMDigest]. I ended up with two Star Perforators. The one
Mr. Barns used is complete and in original condition. The second one
was mechanically "frozen" and was missing some minor parts. Both
machines came from famed roll cutter Eddie Fryer.

The printing on the machine states it was made in Philadelphia and
patented in 1922. This late date may have been working against the
success of this brand.

The Star perforator is no larger than an old-fashioned typewriter.
It has some great features, including a variable step advance and
the ability to cut as many holes as you wanted per advance. Apart
from looking up the patent, I couldn't find any other information
on this brand so I'm sure you'd like to see how it works. I'm in the
process of cleaning the "frozen" machine and reproducing the missing
parts. When the perforators get back together I'll send some photos.
