Duo-Art Roll 6266, Chopin's Fantaisie, Op. 49
By Julian Dyer

Spurred on by friends who clearly rather like this music, I've recut
my copy of Duo-Art 6266, Chopin's Fantaisie Op 49, as discussed in MMD
07.08.03.

I've got the shortened version of this piece, which we have been told
is infamous for notes that are too close together for many instruments
to repeat, and which old-fashioned roll-copying run together. It's
a shame that so many folks have rolls of this rather fine piece don't
play properly.

Anyhow, looking at the roll master, there was room to make most of
these gaps a little bigger by shortening the preceding note by a punch
row or even two rows. In this case I felt that tweaking the roll
a little rather than aiming for an exact copy was probably the best
approach.

I think it works a little better, but then I would! To give others
a chance to hear and make up their own minds, I've recorded a
'before and after' comparison, which can be found on my web site. Go

new rolls section.
