Estey Automatic Player Pipe Organ Rolls
By David Sharpe

In a recent MMDigest Jim Crank asks if any of the Estey organ rolls
were hand played. I have a catalog, "Music for the Estey Residence
Organ," which says, "The music in this catalogue has been especially
arranged with the greatest care for the Estey Residence Organ."

Nowhere does it mention "recording" or "played by." It does offer to
arrange music requested by any (Estey) organ owner. This catalog has
numbers from 100 to about 365.

But apparently at some later date Estey did record actual performances,
or at least claim to, since I have at least two rolls which purport to
be recorded. One is recorded by Parke V. Hogan and one by Chandler
Goldthwaite. These rolls are numbered 1020 and 1029 and they are
listed on the Estey web site without the artists being mentioned.
