Google has recently made almost 100 years of Popular Mechanics
magazine available on its Book Search site at http://books.google.com/ 
I've spent several interesting evenings looking at old ads for the
Mills Violano, reading articles about player pianos and marveling
over descriptions of 128-foot pipe organ stops, etc.  This is
a wonderful resource for getting a glimpse of the past!
