Use Laser to Cut Paper & Leather Gaskets
By Craig Smith

Hi, I'm just curious. Why not cut these gaskets with a laser?
I have a friend who has a laser that is directed optically, not by
moving the part or the table or the head, like an X-Y plotter.

He showed me how he can cut out a fairly complicated pattern in
paper or burn it into leather. The piece was about 9" X 12". When
he hit the start button, there was a puff of smoke for a couple
seconds. Then the smoke cleared, the part was done. What shapes
are these gaskets that people need?

Regards,
Craig Smith

[ In Digest 110930, Diane DeTar mentioned that she was having gaskets cut
[ with a CO2 laser at Axis Industral Marking and Engraving in Ramona Ca.
[ I had an opportunity to look at some samples a couple of weekends ago
[ and was impressed by the precision of the cut. If any of you decide
[ to try them out or anyone else that has a laser, please let us know
[ the results --Jody
