FS: Chickering Ampico Grand in Atlanta
By Lee Lanier

Joe Patten, the legendary "Phantom of the Atlanta Fox Theatre," passed
away earlier this year and his estate is being handled in an on-line
auction this weekend.

Of interest is an early Chickering Ampico in the classic quarter-grand
size. It has the early drawer with adjustable repeat and plays fairly
well but the piano needs a good bit of work to be tonally
characteristic of its maker.

Mr. Patten was much beloved by Atlantans for his dogged persistence in
maintaining the 4/42 "Mighty Mo" Moller pipe organ and later leading
the charge in saving the spectacular theatre from senseless demolition
in the mid 1970's.
