Seek Photos of Nicole Freres Case Details
By Darren Wallace

Hello all, I'm currently restoring a 17000 series Nicole fat cylinder
2-per-turn musical box of circa 1837. My case is missing it's end
flap.

I have a few photos of Nicoles from the same period and the end flaps
on these boxes are made quite differently than later key-wind boxes.
The clearances for the control levers are individual carved out areas
and pockets, and not a full straight clearance groove running from
front to rear. Some are round/bored with a piloted tool, others appear
to be square, crudely roughed out pockets. Please see my provided
photos of examples of other Nicole's from this period [links below].

I'm looking to verify from other owners if their boxes have similar end
flaps, and some good photos. My case is currently with my woodworker,
any immediate help would be greatly appreciated! I'd like to restore
it as authentically as possible. Thanks guys!
