Mechanical Music Stored In a Home With Tenants
By Peter Neilson

Rich Ingram reports in 170914 MMDigest:

> FS: 15,000+ Piano Rolls
> I have the desire to rent out my home (actually just a large part
> thereof), and I need the space that the rolls are occupying.

Allow me to suggest to owners of musical and other treasures that
it is a poor idea to allow tenants into space that might hold these
treasures.

About 50 years ago my grandmother rented out the house in which she
and my grandfather had lived. A few years later one of my brothers
reported, "Those tenants destroyed the old Edison cylinder machine in
the basement." That was the first I had even known of the machine's
existence!

Even if the tenants promise not to open the Forbidden Door into the
Sealed Room, be assured that they or their children _will_ get in
there, if only to find out why it's sealed. Everything in there is
then fair game to be repurposed for gymnastics or target practice.
