Mike Hanchett Mechanical Music in Newton, Kansas
By Luke Myers

Today I again visited Mike Hanchett's player repair shop in Newton,
Kansas. According to his business card, he does the following:

 "Players sold, restored and junked.
  QRS Pianomations installed.
  Reed organs re-organed.
All the bells and whistles automated."

I visited his shop in search of a player stack for a project, and
for $100 was able to purchase a Jesse French (Simplex) stack which
had been restored within the past 10 years, but had been separated
from its piano, which I am fairly certain is no more. The stack has
new neoprene tubing, a transposing tracker bar, and everything on it
is in working order.

What I want to stress in this message is that you will not be able
to find as friendly or helpful a player technician as Mike. He was
very accommodating and showed me several other orphaned stacks --
an Amphion, a Standard, a Baldwin, and another one which I'm not sure
even he recalled the brand of -- and let me decide which one I wanted
to go with.

I guarantee that any MMDer who happens to be in the Kansas area, will
not be disappointed if they so decide to visit the Hanchett workshop.
Either Mike will show you what you need, or at the very least recommend
someone who does have the items you desire.

Mike is anything but a shoddy player tech. I would personally vouch
his work as tops.
