I am restoring an 1874 reed organ that is more furniture than musical
instrument, but it is just too nice to go to a trash heap.  I have
reached the final task of restoring the Stop rail which has been
heavily damaged by a now missing cover.  My question is what method
was employed to apply the gold gilt branding to the black stop rail?

It is not a decal, it doesn't look like it is silk screened and it
is certainly not hand lettered.  I am able to re-create the logo, but
I am baffled by the method of creating and application method and would
appreciate any help with information.
