Electric Motor for Band Organ
By Dana Johnson

[Ref. Tom Sendall in 210321 MMDigest]

In regards to band organ motor sizes, most band organ manufacturers did
not supply motors with their organs (unlike coin pianos). Here is a
simple breakdown of motor sizing by Wurlitzer.

The smallest organ styles (Syle 125) use a 1/4-horsepower motor, medium
size organs (Style 150 series) use a 1/2-hp motor, and large organs
(Style 165 series) use 1 horsepower. This does not include Style 180
organs as they have a blower and electric roll drive.

There are an infinite number of reasons that a modern motor of a different
size may work just fine; the motors above are the OEM recommendations
of circa 1930. I have found them to be reliable.

Hope this helps.
