I have recently seen a huge disc music box called Orphenion which
plays 26-inch discs with an unusual feature, which a first sight
appears to be a winding hole and escutcheon engraved with the word
'Spielt' and below, 'M & L', but as the spring motor is top wound
that cannot be the answer.

If any owners of such a model Orphenion can offer an explanation
and pictures of what mechanism was at one time operated through this
hole on the right hand side of the case, I would be interested to
know more.
