Ampico and Welte-Mignon CD-ROMs Now Available
By Wayne Stahnke

I am pleased to announce two new Live Performance products, CD-ROMs for
Ampico and Welte-Mignon instruments. These CD-ROMs contain music roll
images and the programs required for using them. You can now play your
Ampico or Welte-Mignon instrument from your computer, in addition to
playing it using rolls.

The Ampico CD-ROM contains over 450 roll images that I scanned over the
past several years, drawing from several large collections available to
me locally in Los Angeles. In addition to the roll images, there are
also two computer programs: "View", which allows you to inspect and edit
the roll images, and "Audition", which plays the images on the piano.
In addition to the CD-ROM, this is what you will need:

  (1) An Ampico or Welte-Mignon instrument,
  (2) A set of electromagnetic valves (such as chest magnets),
  (3) An output board (more about this below),
  (4) A computer with DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or Windows 98.

"Audition" supports almost any type of output board. The most common
types are MIDI boards, 8255 PPI output boards, and printer parallel
port output boards. You can build a board if you are so inclined
(I will furnish a schematic diagram), or you can buy boards from a
number of commercial sources at competitive prices.

Although the Welte-Mignon CD-ROM contains fewer roll images than the
Ampico product, there are many rare items on it that are difficult to
come by otherwise. Among these are the complete Licensee recordings of
Walter Gieseking, the complete recordings of Katherine Bacon and George
F. Boyle, and the complete Licensee recordings of Fannie Bloomfield
Zeisler and Leff Pouishnoff.

Each CD-ROM is available from Live Performance at $89.50 plus shipping.
Send me an e-mail letter directly to place an order.
