HI All, Evidently I unwittingly touched a nerve. Spencer Chase writes:
"If a new solid wire is also needed piano wire can be used. The
total cost would be much cheaper and you would not have to wait until
APSCO decided they felt it was an appropriate time to get around to
sending your order, if they ever decided to do so at all."
First and foremost, I totally disagree with Spencer's assessment of
APSCO [American Piano Supply Company]. Since I've been in business
(25 years), APSCO orders have never taken more than one week to arrive.
Most arrive within three days. Be real here -- companies don't stay
in business for generations by delaying their customers orders. It's
not like they're the only game in town, they do have competition and
they know it.
Secondly, if time is no concern, by all means, make the cable yourself.
At my labor rate, if it takes 15 minutes to fabricate and install a
new cable, it's cheaper to buy a new one. The wholesale cost for the
entire cable assembly is $16.00. It lists for $32.00. Professionally
speaking, I like the look and feel of the APSCO control cable and feel
it's very reasonably priced.
