Fairground Organ CD "Art of Mechanical Music"
By Mike Knudsen

I have that CD, "The Art of Mechanical Music, Vol. 3", on the French
"Arion" label. I got the CD just this January at a large record store
in Boston, and posted an article about it back then.

It's a large Gavioli at the Foire de Trone fairgrounds, 105 key, fully
chromatic. It's a pretty good organ and recording, though some of the
bass reeds needed regulation. The (analog) recording was made in 1977.

I got the CD to hear how a Gavioli sounds, having heard Ruths and
Bruders at rallies but not a Gavioli. I still prefer the Carl Frei
Dutch sound, but I would recommend the CD to any fan of band organs.
