Repair of Mechanical Singing Bird
By James Jelinek

In regard to the mechanical bird music box. I have worked on many of
these little bird cages over the years. I have mostly replaced bellows
on them and done small mechanical work. I have had good results if the
unit is complete and the gear works are okay.

Generally the repairs for bellows and oiling is about $60 to $75.
Many of these were German made, from the 'fifties and 'sixties; some
are still being made today in Switzerland. I have run into problems
with some of the later ones having bad nylon or plastic gears that
split and cannot be replaced, to my knowledge, and after a great deal
of searching.
