Oil for Orchestrion Gears
By Stephen Kent Goodman

Is there a preferred light-weight motor oil that may be used in Wurlitzer
gear standards?

Thank you,

Stephen Kent Goodman

[ Gears that aren't enclosed in an oil bath should be lubricated with a
[ suitably viscous oil which clings to the gear teeth and doesn't drip,
[ such as SAE 90 weight with no additives. (Additives aren't needed at
[ moderate temperatures and they're likely to make the oil harden with
[ age.) Very slow moving shafts should receive a grease, and high-speed
[ shaft bearings probably should receive the same oil as does the electric
 [ motor (SAE 50, non-detergent). -- Robbie
